Orange Coffee Flan

Don't get me wrong - ANY flan is a GOOD flan! But this one is my favorite by far. The orange gives it such a great nuance - and the caramel/coffee combo is amazing. The secret to any good flan is to place a towel in your water bath - this keeps the bubbles from forming in the custard. As you can see in my picture, this was the one time I didn't do it and you see the result. LOL - it...

Grand Pere au Caramel Sans Gluten

These caramel dumplings are a traditional French Canadian dessert that are typically served on special occasions. I like to serve this with vanilla ice cream but it is fantastic on it's own.

Candy Cookies

This recipe was emailed to me in a Betty Crocker email. The kids will love topping the cookies with their favorite candies.

Peanut Butter Balls

The girls at work usually get together before the holiday season and have a cookie exchange. One of the girls brought this recipe and I loved it. Here is Lise’s lovely recipe. I use milk chocolate chips for this, but you can use your favorite type of chocolate chips. This can easily be made gluten free by using gluten free graham crumbs.

Lise's Skor Bars

This is a recipe a friend of mine brought to a cookie exchange. It was a favourite here at Xmas time. Thanks for sharing this recipe with me Lise :)

Marie Callender's Lemon Cream Cheese PIe

Found this on the internet. I like to use pecan cookies and 1/4 cup butter and 1 1/2 Tablespoons sugar, in place of graham cracker crust; cream filling as is and 1 1/2 times lemon filling, but I love lemon. If you put the crust in a square or rectangle pan you can cut in bars the size you like. I make it with gluten free cookie crumbs.

Raisin Bar Sheet Cake

This is my mother's recipe from when we were kids, and the first recipe I prepared solo as a child. My mother's old cookbook still bears the traces of a cooking mishap. I had a little problem with the hot water and a metal bowl. Needless to say, don't pick up a metal bowl with boiling water in it -- it's HOT. Icing the cake while slightly warm is essential, the icing goes on...

Gerry's Peanut Butter Fudge

This rich and delicious fudge is one of my families favorites, and is a hit no matter where I bring it. I sometimes use chunky peanut butter in place of the plain peanut butter. It is my aunt's recipe and one that I truly treasure!

Tarte au Sucre Sans Gluten (Sugar Pie)

This gluten free version of my family’s favorite French Canadian sugar pie is sinfully delicious...... Depending on the type of pie crust you use, you might not need all the sugar mixture (Filling). If you have any left, pour it in buttered ramekins (only fill halfway) and cook along with the pie. This goes well with a tall cold glass of milk.  ***Do not substitute the sweet white rice flour with...

Butter Tart Squares

Butter Tart Squares from an old family cookbook and a favouite at our house. Great for the holiday and special occasion tray, a real crowd pleaser.

Gluten Free Vanilla Cupcake With Buttercream Frosting

Most people do not think of the gluten intolerant people attending birthday parties so this is a tasty cupcake recipe I usually make when going to a birthday party or special occasions. If making this for little ones, use milk in lieu of the Irish Cream Liquor. Makes 3

Lemon Curd Cheesecake Pie or Mini-Tarts – No Bake

There are 3 things I esp like about this Taste Of Home dessert recipe by Sarah Gilbert of Beaverton, Oregon: 1) It features lemon curd (1 of my favorite ingredients), 2) It’s easy-fix, make-ahead & no-bake because it uses a prepared pie shell or prepared mini-tart shells & 3) It’s the perfect light dessert for a dinner party if made as a pie cut into wedges or can also be made as mini-tarts for...

Libby's Famous Pumpkin Pie

The one from the can. This recipe has become part of the family traditions of millions during the holidays.

Scratch Yellow Buttermilk Cake

Scrumptious cake from scratch

Pink Lady Squares

This elegant irresistible sweet is from my mom's handwritten collection, one of my all time favourites. An excellent addition to the serving tray, appealing on the holiday platter and great for those special occasions you want to wow. Looks and tastes just as great untinted but as my mom always reminds me "always use the juice from a freshly squeezed lemon when making the icing" Realemon will work...

Carrot Cake

This was my mother's favorite carrot cake because it does not have pineapples in it. I always made it for her on her birthday. It is a nice moist cake. If baking in dark colored pans, or a 9x13x2 pan, baking time will be different.

MOST ALL TIME FAVORITE Italian Cream Cake

I used to make an Italian Cream Cake prior to making this particular recipe for many years that I swore was the best. Well I was wrong, because since I had the good luck in finding this recipe I've no longer gone back to the older cake recipe. Found it in "Taste of the South" magazine some 5 - 6 years ago. It's one of Trisha Yearwood's family recipes that was featured. I'm not...

Bunny Bait - Easter (You Can Make For Any Holiday)

This is a great idea to make for the kids for Easter, or changing up the colors of the sprinkles and M&M's to match any of the holidays coming up. Kids and adults alike enjoy this delicious festive treat, and it is great to bring along to any holiday gathering. Of course, it is also a great snack any time you feel the urge to make it! The serving size is just a guesstimate, because it...

Hershey's Chocolate Cake & Frosting

I first found this recipe on " ZAAR " now a defunct site, it was posted to that site by DiSharf. Then I realized this recipe was on the back of the Hershey's Cocoa Powder can. I did a search on this site and it wasn't here. To me this is the best chocolate ever, if you try it I hope you will say the same thing.(This is also good with Peanut Butter Frosting) Posted to " ZAZZ " on...

Best Ever Butter Tarts

Butter Tarts, sweet, buttery, scrumptious flaky melt in your mouth treats that are a must make at our house at holiday time. Many families have their versions for this Canadian classic, this one is ours and the one I have been making for holidays and special occasions for many, many years. The recipe was passed to me as 'Best Ever Butter Tarts' I have agree - they are the best I've...

Luscious Lemon Bars

These were a favourite of my children when they were young...and they still ask for them when they come to visit. I originally got this recipe from Shirley whom I worked with at the hospital, and that was about 30 years ago. This recipe can be halved successfully.

Rolo Pretzel Bites - Holiday

These holiday candy treats are always a big hit when I make them, and they make a beautiful and colorful addition to your Christmas cookie trays also! Kids and adults fight over these and there is never a last one sitting on the plate! There are 55 Rolos in a bag, so if you want to make more than that buy 2 bags. There are leftover M&M's and pretzels using 1 bag, so feel free to make more...

Sucre à la crème (Maple Cream Fudge)

This is a French Canadian Favourite. Every Francophone person I know has a family member who makes this regularly, and, in my family that person is me, lol. I enjoy making it as much as I enjoy eating it. Make sure you cook this on medium heat only and stir it constantly or this will not turn out.

Joni's Holiday Date Nut Logs

This recipe is from my sister. Our family requests them every holiday season, and it wouldn't be Christmas without them! They are a great addition to your cookie trays and cookie tins to give as gifts to your neighbors, co-workers, friends and family. I hope you will try them, as they truly are fantastic! Word of warning::: These go fast, so make plenty!!! To avoid burning my hands from the...

Angus Barn's Chocolate Chess Pie

This recipe is courtesy of Angus Barn in Raleigh NC. Thad Eure Jr. and Charles M. Winston opened the Angus Barn in 1960 when this part of Raleigh was a pastoral, country setting. Today, the Angus Barn is in the midst of the action between the RDU Airport, Raleigh and Durham. It is consistently ranked as one of the TOP 100 restaurants in the U.S. When you pay your bill, this recipe is given to...

I made these for Easter eggs several years ago with my cooking and recipes group, and they are unbelievably yummy! They will love you forever :) You can also roll them into balls, and make Coconut Cream Almond Joy Balls for your Christmas trays or for Halloween and Valentines...

Pastiera With Strawberry Sauce - Easter Ricotta Cake

This is an incredible cake--light, creamy-like custard, flavoured lightly with vanilla, all in one. The perfect Easter pastiera, originally from Marth Stewart Living.

Easter Bread

Very good bread which takes time as there are several risings. We make almost every year as my family really enjoys it for Easter breakfast and it freezes well. The original recipe says to bake it in coffee cans - I find coffee cans hard to find so I use standard bread pans. Makes 3 loaves. I have made some changes from the original recipe printed in The Finnish Cookbook

Linda's Cheesecake-Stuffed Strawberries

OMG.. These are like heaven in your mouth! Talk about great taste sensations... I made these for one of my cooking and recipe event, and these were a HUGE hit... A must try for sure! You can use low fat cream cheese to make these lighter if you like. You can also dip the tops with any kind of finely chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, graham cracker crumbs, sprinkles, or dip the whole...

Chocolate Steamed Pudding With Ganache

From one of our national supermarkets monthly book, the recipe is by Curtis Stone and is suggested for Easter. NOTE since making this today I found that the cup measurements for the flour and caster sugar DO NOT correlate with the cups measurements given so I have removed them and when making this today used the weight measurements.

Welsh Amber Pudding

A delicious custard-type tart. If you can't find grapefruit marmalade, you can substitute orange.

1950s Magic Jello Dessert

A piece of nostalgia from the 50's. This is one of those old-fashioned desserts that you'd see on nearly every dessert table in the 50s and 60s. Jell-O has found a place in many desserts over the years, but this is one has found its way into the popular list.

Dreamsicle Pudding (WW)

Low fat, low sugar dessert. ! cup serving = 1 WW point. 2 hour cook time is refrigeration time.

Lemon Fluff Pudding

This recipe was in our Saturday newspaper The Weekend West and though they call it Lemon Fluff it reminds me of the Lemon Delicious I used to make many years ago but lost the recipe so saving this one to try very soon. I have made the zest/rind optional as the DH does not like it added to the recipe. Times are estimated.

Chiffon Jello Parfaits

Easy pretty If making magic layer add the 1/2 cup dream whip or cool whip by hand

Sex in a Pan

This is a creamy, crunchy bit of heaven! I have made it with Cool Whip and tried it made with whipping cream. I favour the Cool Whip to save the calories. Both are wonderful. My grandson used to call this Love in a Pan...he did not want to use the other name lol. Total chilling time 5 hours. I have used a 9x13 pan...but prefer to use a 7 1/2 x 12 for a thicker dessert as in the pictures.

Jailhouse Donuts

I worked, for a number of years, in a Women's correctional facility and part of that time I was in charge of the kitchen. Jailhouse donuts were a regular dessert treat because they could be made with ingredients that we had on hand. They are surprisingly good. Do not soak them in the egg mixture and be sure that the oil temperature comes back up to 375 between batches

No Bake Cherry Cheesecake

I have made and enjoyed many a cheesecake but come holidays and special occasions at our house this family favourite is a given. Being freezer friendly it also makes for a great make ahead. When it comes to recipe requests for the most part it comes as a surprise that it's a no bake.
