Step by Step Method

Step 1

Melt butter over medium-low heat in a sauce pan.

Step 2

Stir in flour and garlic powder; cook for one minute while stirring.

Step 3

Increase heat to medium-high and whisk in milk a bit at a time.

Step 4

Add salt and pepper; bring to a boil.

Step 5

Lower heat to medium-low; cook until thickened, about 5 minutes, whisking continually.

Step 6

Remove from heat; add remaining ingredients and stir until cheese is melted.

Step 7

Serve over hot cooked pasta noodles or steamed vegetables.

Derf

This will be my "go to" cheese sauce - easy to add your own finishing touches like a pinch of cayenne, or different low fat cheeses. This time I used all low fat cheddar cheese, left out the salt and used a full half teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. The flavour is so delicious it would be difficult to find any difference between full fat and low fat. Thanks for posting it Bea!!
