"This is just as the name says...simple and rustic! It is a vegetarian recipe, however, feel free to add any protein you like. Cooked chicken, tuna or leftover beef. It is a gooda base to start from."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Saute onion in butter, add garlic and cook for a few minutes and set aside.

Step 2

In medium bowl, light beat the eggs, add the milk, wine or broth.

Step 3

Add the torn buns to the egg mixture and soak for 5 minutes.

Step 4

Add the onion mixture and remaining ingredients; mix well.

Step 5

Bake in a greased casserole at 325 degrees for about 35 minutes.

This is a great way to use up stale bread or buns. So simple yet full of flavour. I served this with Italian sausgae and the two complimented each other quite well. Thanks for posting, will make this again! Made for the Billboard Recipe Tag game.
