" When you have scads of those green tomatoes and don't know what to do with them try this chutney. Goes well with spicy foods. Use any surplus apples that you may have. When you are chopping the apples, peppers and onions do a fairly fine chop. The sliced tomatoes reduce automatically."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Layer the prepared tomatoes with the pickling salt. Add enough cold water to cover the tomatoes. Cover and refrigerate overnight
Step 2
Drain and rinse the tomatoes.
Step 3
Place tomatoes in a large pot, add onions, apples, peppers and vinegar. Bring to a boil, simmer for 30 minutes
Step 4
Tie the pickling spices in a gauze bag and add to the pot
Step 5
Stir in the brown sugar, simmer over low heat for 2 hours, Stir often be careful it doesn't scorch.
Step 6
Pour into sterilized jars, seal and waterbath them for 10 minutes
