Piquant Sauce For Meat Loaf

"This is equally good with meat loaf or sausages etc. Also great on meat loaf sandwiches. It is not a hot condiment but rather spicy sweet. Make this ahead of time so that the sugar crystals can dissolve. This is an accompaniment to the cooked meatloaf, not a topping before it is cooked. I have been making this for over 50 years! I usually quadruple the recipe to have some for the leftovers(plan aheads)."

Original recipe yields 6 servings

Step 1

Mix brown sugar, dry mustard and nutmeg until there are no lumps.

Step 2

Add ketchup and combine thoroughly.

Excellent! We served it as suggested with meatloaf, but the next time I make burgers this sauce would go great with it too. The family loved it. Thank you Luvcookn for sharing. Made it for Billboard Tag.

A spicy sweet savory sauce also perfect accompaniment to grilled burgers, will be trying it with chicken and chops as well. I made this up in a small sauce pan as I do my sauces.I did hesitate on the nutmeg - started with an 1/8 and ended using the full amount which gave me one awesome tasting sauce. Can see why it has seen to over 50 years making at your house. Into my cookbook alongside our fav!

I put all the ingredients together in a saucepan (used ground rosemary instead of nutmeg) and cooked it up to melt the sugar. I served it up as a dipping sauce for meatballs, deeeeeelish.

Derf "RIP" Forever in our Kitchen

mmm quite delicious and just enough spicey flavour to enhance our turkey meatloaf! I'll be using this again and will try it in our leftover meatloaf sammies. (I did cook it onto our meatloaf, it was lovely!)
