"I love Olive Garden's "Famous House Salad" that's topped with their signature tangy Italian Salad Dressing. I could easily eat just this salad alone for dinner (that is, if they didn't have so many other scrumptious items on their menu to enjoy!). And while I usually access this recipe to get the list of ingredients for the Italian Salad Dressing, I've also included all the salad ingredients as well, so I don't forget any of them because they're all so important in the overall scrumptious taste of Olive Garden's "Famous House Salad" (which is extra delicious when served with some fresh baked Olive Garden Breadsticks)."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

FOR THE DRESSING - Mix salad ingredients (mayonnaise through black pepper) in a blender until well mixed (approximately 30 seconds). If this is a little too tart for your own personal tastes, stir in a little sugar. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2

FOR THE SALAD - Chill a large glass salad bowl in the freezer for at least 30 minutes.

Step 3

Place the bag of salad greens in the chilled salad bowl. On top of the lettuce, add the red onions, black olives, pepperoncinis, croutons, tomatoes and Parmesan cheese. Top with the salad dressing (which you might not need to use all of the salad dressing). Toss gently until ingredients are coated with the dressing, leaving lots of vegetables on top. Chill until ready to serve.

Step 4

Serve chilled. Garnish with a bit of fresh Romano cheese grated on top of each serving, if desired.

I have not been to Olive Gardens but have to say I love this dressing. Made the dressing as posted scaling down the salad to one serving. Makes for one great tasting salad. Thank you for sharing!

LifeIsGood

I was always a big fan of the Olive Garden, but it's been years since I've eaten there! When I saw this recipe, I knew I had to give it a try. YUM! It has all those tasty components that I love in a salad (shhhhh we ate an entire can of black olives - either on the salad or snacking!). I messed up on one ingredient. I thought I had parm in the fridge but didn't!! I was so bummed - especially because it was a dressing ingredient! Everything still turned out GREAT. Plus, now I have an excuse to make this salad again....and again....and again... Thank you for this gem!

Believe it or not......I've never eaten at Olive Garden before. I made the salad dressing and used homemade croutons for a great lunch. Thanks for sharing, Vickie.

Linky

I made this for a friend and her mom who were house bound and then for DH and myself. Everyone loved it. I confess, I had a bottle of Olive Garden dressing, so I used that instead of making it from scratch. But, you can't always find it at the store, so this is good to keep in mind. I also added a couple marinated artichoke hearts. Thanks for posting an easy and delicious copycat!
