The ingredient tips, suggestions, variations, facts, questions and answers below are not edits to the original author's recipe. They are not meant to imply any change would improve the recipe. • When selecting the bell peppers, choose ones that are vibrant in color and firm to the touch.
  • For a milder sauce, reduce the amount of jalapeno peppers or omit them altogether.

  • Substitute almond milk for the half and half cream to reduce the fat content and make the sauce more health-conscious. Almond milk is a dairy-free alternative that will still provide a creamy texture to the sauce.
  • Substitute nutritional yeast for the cheddar cheese to make the sauce vegan. Nutritional yeast is packed with B-vitamins and is a great source of protein, making it a healthy alternative to cheese.

Smoky Chipotle Nacho Cheese Sauce Replace the jalapeno peppers with 1/4 cup of minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. Add 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika and 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin to the saucepan when adding the bell peppers.

Spicy Buffalo Nacho Cheese Sauce Replace the jalapeno peppers with 1/4 cup of diced buffalo sauce. Add 1 teaspoon of garlic powder and 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the saucepan when adding the bell peppers.

Veggie Nachos: Layer fresh vegetables, black beans, and a generous helping of this nacho cheese sauce over corn chips for a delicious and healthy veggie nacho dish.

Vegan Pico de Gallo: This vegan pico de gallo is a fresh, flavorful accompaniment to the veggie nachos. It's made with tomatoes, onions, jalapeño, cilantro, and lime juice, and is a great way to add a zesty, spicy kick to the dish.
