" These mushrooms look and taste so rich you won't believe that they really are quite reasonable for the waistline. This recipe was adapted from an original recipe by Sarah_Jane. They are great as a side dish for brunch, on a buffet, with a steak or a dozen other meals that want some MMmmm mushrooms on the side. You could even serve them over pasta! You may easily double the recipe."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Clean the mushrooms and thickly slice them.

Step 2

Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat

Step 3

Stir in the garlic and saute 1 minute

Step 4

Add mushrooms and fry until golden (apprx 6 minutes) medium heat

Step 5

Mix mustard and cottage cheese add to the pan and cook until the cheese has melted and the sauce is a rich brown (3 to 5 minutes)

Step 6

Ready to serve

So good, and like other reviewers I doubled the sauce. Even so, it wasn't saucy and didn't really go well over the egg noodles. So we had it alongside some ribeye and that worked really well. Delicious!

I try to have at least one meatless meal a week and this looked so tempting I jumped at the chance to make it. The mushrooms are so meaty that you don't miss the meat at all and the flavor is fabulous!

I halved the mushrooms and doubled the sauce to make for just me for supper one night. It made enough sauce for me. I made my own noodles to have this over. Delicious!
