Awesome Beef Patties With Mushroom Gravy

"This is one of my husband’s favourite meals, he says this is "Pure Comfort Food". It is quick and easy to put together and with ingredients most people usually have on hand. If gluten intolerant make sure you use GF beef bouillon granules and sub rice flour for the all-purpose flour."

Step 1

Mix together the beef, minced onion, beef bouillon granules, flour, egg, garlic, oregano and pepper and form into 4 patties about 1" thick.

Step 2

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat, add patties and cook until you have nice golden brown crust on both sides about 5 minutes per side; remove patties from skillet and set aside.

Step 3

Prepare gravy by adding the mushrooms and garlic to skillet and cook while scrapping up the browned bits until mushrooms start to soften and sweat, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

In a large measuring cup, whisk the remaining gravy ingredients together, return the patties to skillet. and pour in the beef stock mixture and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 15 stirring every so often so it doesn’t bubble over. (The sauce may have a frothy texture at first but that will disappear while simmering).

Step 5

Remove bay leaf and serve.

This was a delicious dinner for us. My DH thought we should have cut down the bouillon a little bit. We loved the mushroom gravy. We left some of the mushrooms in slices and sliced up completely the rest.

Since your hubby loves this I thought it would be comfort food for my "meat and potatoes" Dad - and it was. The whole family enjoyed it! I was out of oregano so used marjoram - a bit milder but nonetheless tasty. It was great with mashed potatoes. We'll make this again - thanks!

Great beef patties and mushroom gravy. I used ground round, low salt beef bouillon granules, organic mushrooms and beef stock. Liked the addition of the bay leaf giving the gravy a slow cooked homemade flavor. Had to have mashed potatoes to share that gravy with and enjoy the flavor of the patties. Will be making these again and thank you Bea for a terrific meal. Made and reviewed for the Billboard Recipe Tag Game.
