Step by Step Method

Step 1

Melt the butter in the skillet. Add garlic and mushrooms, and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender and browned, about 5-6 minutes.

Step 2

Whisk in flour until lightly browned, about 1 minute. Gradually whisk in half and half, thyme, basil and crushed red pepper flakes; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Cook, whisking constantly, until slightly thickened, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3

Serve immediately.

I did add some dried mushrooms to the ingredients as I always have some on hand, but followed everything else as per the recipe. Such an easy sauce to make. This sauce is really smooth and has a lovely light creamy texture & taste, which would pair well, served with any type of protein. We loved this sauce ~ served over garlic chicken for my DH and I actually used it as a side to my vegetarian dinner, which was delicious. Great recipe that served 2 ways complimented each dinner extremely well.

Wonderfully flavoured creamy sauce! Because of what I had on hand, used 1 cup whipping cream and 1/2 cup of 2% milk. I served it over baked chicken. Thank you Blinky for sharing your keeper recipe!

I scaled this back for 2 serves and made as per recipe serving this flavoursome rich and creamy sauce over some crumbed steak, thank you Blinky for a great sauce.
