Step 1

Using a serrated knife trim crusts from bread.

Step 2

Scatter cheese over one half of each bread slice and top with ham and spinach.

Step 3

Brush edges of bread slices with extra beaten egg and fold each slice over to form a triangle and press edges together to seal.

Step 4

Whisk egg and milk in a bowl until combined.

Step 5

Heat margarine in a large frying pan over moderate heat.

Step 6

Working quickly, dip triangles, one by one in egg mixture, being careful not to over-soak triangles in egg mixture or they will become soggy.

Step 7

Add the triangles to the pan and cook, in batches, for 2 minutes each side or until browned.

Step 8

Serve with tomato sauce.
