Step by Step Method
Step 1
Cook macaroni according to package instructions, adding shortening to water. Do not overcook. Drain.
Step 2
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 3
Combine macaroni with all other ingredients using 1 cup of the cheddar cheese.
Step 4
Bake uncovered in ungreased 9x13-inch casserole for 25-30 minutes.
Step 5
Remove from oven and top with reserved 1 cup cheddar cheese. Return to oven only long enough for the cheese to melt.
