"This is an old recipe of my Mother's - I have no idea where she got the name but this is what she always called it. This is nice served with a smoked sausage on top. "

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Rinse the sauerkraut well, squeeze as dry as you can get it
Step 2
Fry your bacon until crisp, remove, set aside
Step 3
Drain off most of the bacon grease, add onions and carrots to the pan and saute for about 8 minutes
Step 4
Add remaining ingredients and the bacon, simmer until the wine has almost evaporated Serve and enjoy now or place in an oven proof casserole
Step 5
Pop a smoked sausage on top, cover bake in 350f oven for 30 minutes, uncover bake for a further 15 minutes
