Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 450°F.

Step 2

In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water

Step 3

Add a teaspoon of the sugar

Step 4

Let stand several minutes.

Step 5

In a large bowl, sift together dry ingredients.

Step 6

Cut in shortening

Step 7

Add jalapeno peppers and cheese

Step 8

Stir in buttermilk.

Step 9

Add yeast mixture here

Step 10

Add to dough, mixing lightly.

Step 11

Turn dough onto a well-floured surface; knead lightly.

Step 12

Roll out ½ to ¾ inch thick.

Step 13

Use a 2½-inch biscuit cutter to cut biscuits.

Step 14

Bake on a pam sprayed cookie sheet 10 minutes.

These came out so very tender! The jalapeno is not overpowering at all and gave it such a nice taste in the background. Because there was yeast in it, let the biscuits rest in the greased pan prior to placing them in the oven, but found that they spread and not sure if it really needs to have a rest/rise. Cut the recipe in half and got about 15 biscuits, but next time I'll make sure they are higher than 1/2 - 3/4 inch and will add more salt and a bit more baking soda. They were very delicious and a do-again. Thanks Dee, for sharing. Made it "For your Consideration" tag game.
