"I didn't have any Prego sauce on hand and found this recipe to make a copycat. It turned out pretty good. Makes 6 cups"

Step 1

Heat oil over medium-low heat, and add garlic. Stir and cook until golden brown. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 2

Add onion and cook until soft and golden stirring frequently. Add seasonings and tomato products. Slowly bring to the boil at a medium-high heat. Let boil for 10 minutes, covered.

Step 3

Reduce to lowest heat, cover loosely, and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

This recipe yields about six cups.

This was very good and easily prepared, a simple sauce with lots of depth. I DID cut the sugar back a lot, I put maybe a tsp sugar, this is probably personal taste. Lovely, thank you for sharing

What a treat! It has been ages since I made this much sauce and it won't be that long again. This is fabulous and so easy! The garlic just pops but not overwhelms. I did cut sugar in half as I usually by Prego No Sugar sauce but felt I needed a bit to cut acid. Absolutely the bomb!
