"Described as sweet, salty and cheesy. What could be better? Ok, time for those elastic waist pants... From Running to the Kitchen. Note: I find mayo browns nicer and more evenly than butter, so I always use it instead for grilled cheese sandwiches."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat. Melt butter, add onions and rosemary. Cook, stirring only a few times until caramelized, about 20 minutes.

Step 2

Butter (or spread mayo)on one side of each piece of bread. Lay half the cheese on the non-buttered side of one slice of bread. Add half the caramelized onions on top of the cheese. Add the pear slices on top of the onions.

Step 3

Add the remaining cheese slices and then the bacon and remaining onions. Top with remaining slice of bread, leaving the buttered side up.

Step 4

Place the sandwich in a large skillet over medium-high heat, press down firmly with a spatula or heavy object to help brown the bread and melt the cheese. Cook on one side for about 3 minutes, flip and do the same on the other side.

Step 5

Slice in half and serve warm.

KATO BABY

5 stars all day Lori. Wow, was this grilled treasure ever good. Best grilled cheese ever, made as written but used day old homemade bread. It was so good that I wished I would have made more. I will be enjoying this again tomorrow on sour dough bread. The onions and rosemary are a lovely surprise plus they supply a great deal of flavor to the sandwich. The pear flavor got lost in the cheese for me. Next time I will double the amount that I used (1/2 pear for two sandwiches). Thanks for sharing a new favorite. Made for Alphabet Tag.
