Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a frying pan, fry the “Wäinzoossissen” (bratwurst) sausages in butter on both sides over a high heat for 5 minutes. Then lower the temperature until they are properly cooked through.

Step 2

TO MAKE THE MUSTARD SAUCE: Finely chop the shallot and sweat it in the butter.

Step 3

Add a spoonful of mustard, stirring it in with a wooden spatula.

Step 4

Deglaze with the Riesling and the chicken stock to dilute the mustard. Reduce the sauce by 2/3.

Step 5

Then add the fresh cream and again reduce the sauce by half.

Step 6

Pour the mustard sauce over the “Wäinzoossissen”

Step 7

Top with the parsley and serve with mashed potatoes.

Everyone's right, and I can see why this made it into Peggy's Best of 2020 list! The sauce is indeed divine, and I had to stop DH from scooping it all over his mashed potatoes and leaving just a tad for the rest of us! I used those really good white German brats from Aldi - and they were awesome with this sauce. Will definitely be making this again, as the sauce will be good on a number of things. Also, would double the sauce so DH can have his fill...

A totally divine recipe. I used 2 teaspoons of dijon mustard and 1 of hot English mustard. Gave a lovely tang. I was out of cream so substituted buttermilk, which worked fine. Followed everything else. Served with mashed potatoes, carrots and corn. I highly recommend the sauce. I can imagine using with many other dishes. You'll just have to keep me from eating the whole thing out of the saucepan.

Yummy -- I haven't had brats in a very long time and this dish was really good. Loved the sauce and while the dish did take longer -- it was well worth it. : )

Delicious! I could drink the mustard sauce. I would double the sauce. It does take longer to cook than indicated. I will definitely make this again.

This was delicious! I bought onion & garlic bratwurst at a local butcher shop that carries 44 different flavors of brat!!! That's Wisconsin for ya! I really liked the sauce. But - there's no way that this meal was ready in the amount of time stated. Probably took twice as long, fyi.
