"I found the original recipe on the Taste of Home site, which was sent into them by a gentleman by the name of Warren S. Patrick of Townshend,Vermont. And as much as I liked the way Mr.Patrick made them, a few changes were made to the recipe. Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2
In a large bowl mix together the first 5 ingredients.
Step 3
In a small bowl mix the melted butter and the vanilla,then add to the oatmeal mixture.
Step 4
For the topping,take 1 cup of the mixture and set aside.
Step 5
Press remaining oatmeal mixture into an 8 inch square baking which has been prepared with cooking spray.
Step 6
Bake for 10 minutes,remove and cool for 5 minutes.
Step 7
Spread jam over the crust to 1/2 inch of the edges.
Step 8
Mix walnuts to reserved oatmeal mixture and crumble over jam.
Step 9
Bake for another 25 minutes or until lightly browned.
Step 10
Cool to room temperature and cut into 16 squares.
