Step by Step Method

Step 1

Prepare steak, cut into 2 1/2 inch strips 1 inch wide, trimming away all fat.

Step 2

In large frying pan over medium heat saute onions until translucent. Remove from pan set aside

Step 3

Sear meat turning constantly 4 - 5 minutes (if your pan is not large enough you may have to do this in batches) Add mushrooms stir occasionally for about 3 - 4 minutes. Add salt and pepper

Step 4

Remove from heat. Stir the onions back in. Add consomme and Worcestershire sauce. Heat pan to boiling.

Step 5

Make a smooth paste of flour and the water stir until thickened. Stir in sour cream until heated through. Serve over noodles.

This tasted great but I would prefer the meat to be thinner slices and the sauce didn't thicken up enough. I would cut down the amount of water next time. Easy to make, though.

We really enjoyed this tonight I bought just over 1 kilogram of sirloin/porterhouse steak which was lean so there was not a lot of fat to cut of and served over egg fettuccine with just a side of cheese and salami bread and there was not much left over between 4 of us with 2 small eater and 2 large serve eaters but it was enjoyed but when making again will add some paprika and cayenne to suit our tastes more but the present recipe is definitely a good starting point and is very nice and tasty in its own right. Thank you Gerry, made for Billboard Recipe Tag Game.

For the consomme I subbed beef broth, and otherwise made as written. This is a great stroganoff and we loved every bite! This would be good substituting chicken for the beef and chicken broth for the consomme.

OH YUM ! kudoo's to your Mom Gerry !! this is luscious, we had it over potato/rutabega mash with broccoli slaw on the side. I used no fat sour cream and instead of flour i thickened it with cornstarch. A wonderful Sunday dinner i will be making again, thanks for posting.
