  • When selecting an apple, choose one that is firm and crisp to ensure the best flavor.
  • When selecting a pear, choose one that is ripe, but still slightly firm to ensure the best texture.

  • Substitute almond slices for the apple and pear: Almond slices provide a crunchy texture and nutty flavor, which can add a unique taste to the quesadillas. It is also a healthier alternative to the apples and pears, as almonds are high in protein and healthy fats.
  • Substitute feta cheese for the cheddar cheese: Feta cheese has a distinct salty flavor that can complement the sweetness of the apples and pears. It also has a crumbly texture, which can add a nice contrast to the quesadillas.

Vegetarian Variation Replace the ham with 1/2 cup of cooked black beans and 1/2 cup of cooked corn. Replace the cheddar cheese with Monterey Jack cheese.

Spicy Chipotle Black Beans: This hearty side dish is the perfect accompaniment to the Apple & Pear Ham Quesadillas. The smoky flavor of the chipotle chili powder and the creamy texture of the black beans provide a great contrast to the quesadillas.

Spicy Cilantro Lime Rice: This flavorful rice dish is the perfect complement to the Apple & Pear Ham Quesadillas. The zesty lime and cilantro provide a bright flavor that contrasts nicely with the smoky chipotle black beans. The rice also helps to balance out the heavier quesadillas, making it a great side dish.
