Step by Step Method

Step 1

Cook the sausage, then drain well.

Step 2

Place the melted butter into a 13 x 9 inch baking dish. Cut the bread into small squares (you can cut the crust off or leave them on, your preference). Spread the bread squares over the butter in the pan.

Step 3

Spread the sausage over the bread. Cover the bread and sausage with the shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 4

Beat together the eggs, mustard, salt, and half and half. Pour over the ingredients in the baking pan. Chill for 8 hours, then bake for 40-50 minutes at 350 degrees.

Oh my, this was a big hit in my home. My husband asked for it again, and said it would even be good for dinner. I used our favorite sweet Italian sausage, but I would like to try this again with other (more savory) sausage blends. It's so good overall, so I can imagine just about any type of breakfast sausage would be a good choice. Thanks for sharing your recipe, breezermom.

I love a good breakfast casserole and this didn’t disappoint. Easy and loved the cheese in it. I used potato bread and turkey sausage. I made whole recipe and froze leftovers in individual servings for reheating later.

This is easy and convenient to make the evening before and put in the fridge . I used regular bread, but I think something like french bread would be good, also. Thanks, Breezer.
