"I usually use cannellini beans when I make this, but other types work just as well. This is excellent served over rice or with cornbread. Good for potlucks, too as it can be kept warm in a crock pot."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Cook sausage for 2-3 minutes. Stir in onion and peppers. Cook and stir until sausage is lightly browned and vegetables are tender.

Step 2

Combine brown sugar, steak sauce, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce; stir into skillet. Add beans. Cook and stir until heated through, at least 20 minutes (but I've found that simmering longer to blend the flavors is better!).

Simple to make and full of flavor! The amount of sauce was perfect. I served it over brown rice and it was delicious! I will definitely be making this one again.

A winner at our table. We loved the "sweet and savory" sauce, but wanted more, so next time around those juicy bits of kielbasa get double the sauce. Cooking the sausage and vegetables on a low heat retains the texture of the vegetables and those mouth watering juices without overcooking. Thanks for a great meal.

This is a wonderful recipe. I followed it to a tee, but since my family likes more beans, I doubled the sauce recipe, added more beans and a little bit of molasses. I hope you don't mind that we changed the recipe a wee bit. We love the way molasses makes beans taste! I simmered for 15 minutes and put in the crockpot on high for one hour! Just fabulous! Thanks for your great recipe! It's a keeper.
