Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F & set out several baking sheets.
Step 2
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt & sugar, mixing well.
Step 3
Using a pastry cutter, blend the cold butter into the flour mixture until crumbly.
Step 4
Add the buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened, then shape into a ball & knead 4 or 5 times.
Step 5
On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to a thickness of 1/2 inch, then cut with a 1 3/4-inch round cutter, placing biscuits on baking sheets. Brush biscuits lightly with milk.
Step 6
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned, then remove biscuits to a wire rack, or if serving immediately, to a serving platter.
