Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup cold unsalted butter
  • 1 cup reduced fat buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup milk (or less)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees F & set out several baking sheets.

  • Step 2: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt & sugar, mixing well.

  • Step 3: Using a pastry cutter, blend the cold butter into the flour mixture until crumbly.

  • Step 4: Add the buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened, then shape into a ball & knead 4 or 5 times.

  • Step 5: On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to a thickness of 1/2 inch, then cut with a 1 3/4-inch round cutter, placing biscuits on baking sheets. Brush biscuits lightly with milk.

  • Step 6: Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned, then remove biscuits to a wire rack, or if serving immediately, to a serving platter.
