Editorial Notes

The ingredient tips, suggestions, variations, facts, questions and answers below are not edits to the original author's recipe. They are not meant to imply any change would improve the recipe. • Make sure to use fresh shrimp for the best flavor.
  • If you don't like spicy food, reduce the amount of chilli flakes and red chilli.

  • Substitute bacon with diced ham: This substitution is a great way to give the dish a smoky flavor without the added fat that bacon provides.
  • Substitute shrimp with diced chicken: This substitution is perfect for those who may not be able to eat seafood, or simply don't like it. The chicken will provide a protein-rich alternative that will still give the dish a great flavor.

Spaghetti With Bacon & Mushroom Replace the prawns with 400 grams of fresh mushrooms. Heat the oil in a large frypan and cook bacon until it starts to turn golden. Add garlic, lemon zest, chilli flakes and fresh chilli and sizzle another 30 seconds. Add the mushrooms and stir-fry over medium heat until they change colour (2 to 3 minutes). Drain pasta, reserving a half cup of the cooking liquid. Add pasta, lemon juice, salt, pepper and reserved cooking liquid to the pan with the mushrooms and toss over heat so the pasta absorbs the flavours. Sprinkle on parsley and serve with parmesan.

Garlic Bread: Garlic bread is the perfect accompaniment to this dish. It adds a delicious crunchy texture and a garlicky flavour that complements the other ingredients. Plus, it's a great way to mop up any extra sauce!

Roasted Vegetables: Roasted vegetables are a great way to add a nutritious and delicious side to this dish. They can be seasoned to taste and cooked until they are tender and lightly browned. The vegetables will add a fresh, bright flavour to the meal, and they are a great way to get in some extra vitamins and minerals.

FAQ

Q: How long should I cook the pasta for? A: Cook the pasta for 2 minutes less than the instructions on the packet.

Q: How do I know when the pasta is done?

A: Check the pasta for doneness by tasting it. It should be al dente, meaning it should be slightly firm to the bite. If it is too firm, cook it for a few more minutes. If it is too soft, it is overcooked.

A great meal. We served our's over rice which also worked well. Next time we will have it over pasta. We did add some frozen peas to the rice, but otherwise made as directed. Thanks for sharing!
