"This is a convenient and tasty meal that was shared by Lois at one of the many pot lucks we have where my husband teaches. My family loves this in the fall and winter served with mashed potatoes, rye bread and green beans."

Step 1

In a skillet, melt butter and saute onions and apples until translucent.

Step 2

Combine sauerkraut, apple/onion mixture, ketchup and dill in the slow cooker. Stir in kielbasa.

Step 3

Cover and cook on low for 7-9 hours. (The cooking time depends upon your slow cooker. Newer models cook faster.)

I love sauerkraut and I loved this easy recipe. I followed the recipe exactly except for 2 things - I added 2 potatoes to the pot and, I guess I really squeezed the kraut dry because I had to add a bit of extra moisture for the last couple of hours. I added 1/2 cup tomato juice. I had a lovely double smoked spicy sausage. Very enjoyable dinner thanks acerast
