"These are a big hit for those arm chair atheletes on sport days. Slow cooked in beer, topped with a chili sauce mixture add cheese these are heavenly. You may use nonalcoholic beer. I spotted the recipe in Taste of Home by Alana Simmons. I made a several changes. The original recipe called for 3 cans beer - I found that two was more than enough. It you like spicy use Hot Italian Sausages instead of Brats Mmmm Good"

Step 1
In a large skillet brown the sausages, drain any fat.
Step 2
In a 5 quart slow cooker place half the onion and sauerkraut.
Step 3
Top with all the sausages

Add remaingonion and kraut
Step 5
Pour in the beer
Step 6
Cook for 6 1/2 hours on low.
Step 7
Turn on broiler
Step 8
Mix together the mayo, chili sauce, ketchup, chopped onion, relish, garlic and pepper
Step 9
Stir until well mixed, set aside.
Step 10
When the bratwurst are ready, place Hoagie buns cut open on an oven proof tray.
Step 11
Evenly spread the chili mixture on one side of the buns, top with the drained sauerkraut mixture, a bratwurst and a slice of cheese.
Step 12
Broil until the cheese has melted approx 4 minutes.
