Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 10 bratwurst
  • 2 cans (10 ounce each) beer, light
  • 1 sweet onion, sliced (large onion)
  • 1 jar (14 ounce) sauerkraut, wine cured (rinsed, hard squeezed)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 tablespoon finely chopped sweet onion
  • 2 teaspoons sweet relish
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Pepper to taste
  • 10 cheese slices (your favorite)
  • 10 bread buns (hoagie buns)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large skillet brown the sausages, drain any fat.

  • Step 2: In a 5 quart slow cooker place half the onion and sauerkraut.

  • Step 3: Top with all the sausages

  • Step 4: Add remaingonion and kraut

  • Step 5: Pour in the beer

  • Step 6: Cook for 6 1/2 hours on low.

  • Step 7: Turn on broiler

  • Step 8: Mix together the mayo, chili sauce, ketchup, chopped onion, relish, garlic and pepper

  • Step 9: Stir until well mixed, set aside.

  • Step 10: When the bratwurst are ready, place Hoagie buns cut open on an oven proof tray.

  • Step 11: Evenly spread the chili mixture on one side of the buns, top with the drained sauerkraut mixture, a bratwurst and a slice of cheese.

  • Step 12: Broil until the cheese has melted approx 4 minutes.

  • Step 13: Enjoy.
