  • Use stale bread for the best results. This will help the bread absorb the egg mixture better.
  • Using half and half or light cream will give the French toast a denser texture.

  • For the cream, substitute Greek yogurt for a healthier option. The Greek yogurt provides a tangy flavor and adds protein to the dish.
  • For the oil, substitute butter for a richer flavor. The butter will also help to brown the toast more evenly and give it a better texture.

Coconut French Toast Replace the heavy cream with 1/4 cup of coconut cream. Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the egg mixture. Sprinkle shredded coconut on top of the toast before serving.

Cinnamon Applesauce. This is a great accompaniment to Russian French Toast, Grenki as it adds a sweet and tart flavor to the dish. The cinnamon adds a nice warmth to the toast, and the applesauce provides a nice contrast to the richness of the french toast.

Baked Apples with Cinnamon and Brown Sugar - This dish is a great accompaniment to Russian French Toast, Grenki as it adds a sweet and spicy flavor to the dish. The apples are cooked until they are soft and juicy, and the brown sugar and cinnamon give it an extra layer of sweetness. The apples provide a nice contrast to the richness of the french toast.

Fun facts:

Grenki, a type of Russian French toast, is said to have been invented in the 17th century by Peter the Great, the Tsar of Russia. He was said to have enjoyed it so much that he made it a part of the Russian Imperial Court's menu.

Grenki is also said to have been a favorite of the Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy, who enjoyed it as a late night snack. He wrote about it in his novel War and Peace, saying that it was "the most delicious thing in the world".
