"This is an Italian anise cookie that is made on a Pizelle iron. I make these at Christma, but should make them all year as I just love them. Sprinkle with confectioners sugar and they are so pretty and good."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Melt the butter and cool slightly.

Step 2

Beat eggs and sugar till smooth; add the cooled butter; mix well.

Step 3

Add anise and mix; add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.

Step 4

Heat the Pizzelle iron and place a rounded spoonful of dough in the center of the design; dough will be slightly soft. NOTE: You may want to discard the first couple as I always use them as a test.

Step 5

Press handles of iron together for just a short time till the pizzelle is done--take off and cool.

Step 6

NOTE: These freeze well; when ready to serve, sift confectioners sugar over them. I don't know exactly how many they make, but lots; am only guessing.
