"An Indian spice blend used to flavor vegetables or rice dishes. This spice mix is left in seed form, instead of ground. Put it in the water your are using to steam carrots or cauliflower for a nice flavor. Nigella seed can be found in spice shops. It is sometime called black onion seed. "Fry" the mixture in a little oil to release flavors, or "dry" fry until aroma is released and then use in your recipe. All of these seeds can be found in Indian markets in some larger food stores with ethnic sections or bulk foods."

Winner! I cannot believe that I missed out on Panch Phoran, to think it's taken me til now to enjoy this awesome spice mix! Finally found the nigella seeds this past weekend. Used this wonderful spice mix on last nights vegetable stir fry - loved every bite. Recipe has been added to my spice collection and my Family Cookbook.
