Step by Step Method
Step 1
Soften yeast in warm water with honey.
Step 2
Combine milk and water and shortening. Scald.
Step 3
Mix in sugar and salt. Stir until melted.
Step 4
When lukewarm, add 2 cups flour. Add yeast mixture, then oats.
Step 5
Add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Knead until smooth and satiny (about 10 minutes).
Step 6
Place in greased bowl and brush top with melted shortening, let rise 1 hour.
Step 7
Punch down let rest 10 minutes.
Step 8
Shape into 2 loaves in greased 9 by 5 by 3 inch pans.
Step 9
Brush with melted shortening. Let rise about 45 minutes.
Step 10
Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
