Step by Step Method

Step 1

Put butter in a skillet and melt it. Salt and pepper the beef liver. Put in the skillet and cook on medium for about 3 minutes on each side. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 2

Put the onion and apple into the skillet and cook until the onions are lightly browned. Stir frequently.

Step 3

Serve the apples and onion on top of the liver.

This was delicious. This was simple and easy to put together. The flavor pairings worked perfectly together. The sweetness of the apples and the onions against the sharp umami of the liver were very complimentary. It is like a trip back to the old country. We soaked the liver in milk to mitigate the smell of the liver. Our liver came from the butcher thinly sliced so the meat needed shorter cooking time but it didn't ruin the liver, it was still delicious.
