Step by Step Method

FOR THE OATMEAL


Step 1

In a saucepan over medium-high heat, toast the oats in the butter for 2 minutes.

Step 2

Add the water and salt.

Step 3

Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer gently, uncovered, until the oatmeal thickens and is tender, 25 to 30 minutes, stirring frequently, especially toward the end.

FOR THE PEAR AND MAPLE TOPPING


Step 4

:Meanwhile, in a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the butter and sugar until they begin to color.

Step 5

Add the pears and currants.

Step 6

Sauté until the pears are tender and colored a light gold, about 4 minutes.

Step 7

Serve the hot oatmeal in bowls.

Step 8

Spoon some of the topping onto each portion.

Step 9

Sprinkle with pecans and drizzle with maple syrup.

I just really love steel cut oats and this recipe sure did catch my eye. I'm so happy that I tagged and made this recipe as it was so well enjoyed. Love the pears and sauce it makes. I used golden raisins in place of the currants and I wound up trying it with some sprinkled cinnamon over the top and it was fab! Thank you Dienia for sharing!
