Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 1/4 cups oats (steel cut)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 5 cups water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • PEAR AND MAPLE TOPPING
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 ounces pears (2 pears, peeled, cored and diced)
  • 4 tablespoons raisins
  • 2.2 ounces chopped pecans (1/2 cup chopped, shelled, toasted and coarsely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

How to Make

  • FOR THE OATMEAL

  • Step 1: In a saucepan over medium-high heat, toast the oats in the butter for 2 minutes.

  • Step 2: Add the water and salt.

  • Step 3: Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer gently, uncovered, until the oatmeal thickens and is tender, 25 to 30 minutes, stirring frequently, especially toward the end.

  • FOR THE PEAR AND MAPLE TOPPING

  • Step 4: :Meanwhile, in a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the butter and sugar until they begin to color.

  • Step 5: Add the pears and currants.

  • Step 6: Sauté until the pears are tender and colored a light gold, about 4 minutes.

  • Step 7: Serve the hot oatmeal in bowls.

  • Step 8: Spoon some of the topping onto each portion.

  • Step 9: Sprinkle with pecans and drizzle with maple syrup.
