Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and nutmeg.

Step 2

In a separate bowl the butter, buttermilk and eggs.

Step 3

Pour into the dry mixture and stir well until combined and form a dough.

Step 4

On a floured surface, roll out the dough until about 1” thick. Cut out the doughnuts with a 3” cookie cutter and cut out the centers with a 1/2” cookie cutter.

Step 5

Drop doughnuts in the hot oil and fry until golden and they float to the top.

Step 6

Flip and fry on both sides. Drain on a paper towel.

Love these old fashioned doughnuts! After I made them, when I wanted one I heated it in the oven for about 7 minutes and then dipped the end of the doughnut in sugar as I ate it. Doesn't get better than that for a doughnut!

Engrossed

Delightful Doughnuts! I love buttermilk doughnuts and these didn't disappoint. I made a half recipe with 2 eggs. And made doughnut holes by using my cookie scooper to drop 4-5 scoops of dough into oil heated to 375F. I then rolled some in cinnamon sugar and some in homemade maple glaze. The maple glazed ones were to die for! Made for the Billboard recipe tag game.
