"This recipe goes back years, the chicken is lightly coated in the prepared tangy sauce grilled and then placed back in the skillet to coat and cook in the sauce, this recipe also works well with pork chops although you will need to adjust cooking time, the sauce made up to a day in advance if desired. An indoor grill works great also if you can't grill outdoors. Throw extra chicken pieces on the grill then freeze to have ready for another meal, just thaw and cook in the sauce. Cooking time is only for the chicken cooked in the sauce."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add in onion and saute for about 3 minutes or until softened. Add in garlic and saute for 1-2 minutes. Stir in all remaining ingredients; bring to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low and simmer uncovered for about 25-30 minutes.

Step 2

Remove from heat and allow to cool just slightly..

Step 3

Dip the chicken into the sauce and turn to coat. Place on a preheated grill for about 10-15 minutes, turning once during cooking (the chicken does not have to be fully cooked, it will finish cooking in the sauce).

Step 4

Transfer the chicken to the skillet and simmer in sauce until thoroughly cooked and tender, turning once during cooking (about 20 minutes).

Awesome recipe!!! Great flavour and it's super easy. I used splenda brown sugar and used a tablespoon Frank's RedHot Sauce instead of the cayenne. Made for the Alphabet Soup Recipe Tag Game.
