Step by Step Method

Step 1

Heat up schmaltz or bacon drippings in a large saucepan.

Step 2

Add diced onion and saute until soft.

Step 3

Add kale and saute for a few minutes.

Step 4

Add salt, broth and smoked bacon.

Step 5

Cover saucepan and warm up mixture on medium heat for 5 minutes (do not cook longer).

Step 6

Add the grated potato and cook for a few minutes until thickened.

Step 7

Remove bacon and keep warm.

Step 8

Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.

Step 9

Place the smoked pork chops and/or sausages on the Kale mixture and allow to simmer on low for 15 minutes.

Step 10

Slice the bacon and place the kale, meat and bacon on a serving dish.

Step 11

May be served with boiled potatoes or home fries.
