Step by Step Method

Step 1

Heat oil in large pot over medium high. Season beef with salt and pepper. Brown meat well on both sides. Transfer beef to crock pot.

Step 2

Lower heat to medium and add the onions to the pan and saute for 10 minutes or until golden. Add garlic and stir for 1 minute.

Step 3

Pour in beer and beef broth and stir well to deglaze the pan.

Step 4

Pour onions and beer broth over the beef and add bay leaf.

Step 5

Cook on low for 5-6 hours. Beef should be pull-apart tender. If desired the broth can be ticken with a corn starch/water mixture.

Step 6

Serve with mashed potatoes.

I followed this recipe except I used Venison. I had a crazy day and forgot to thicken the Gravy. The meat came out very tender. We had it over mashed potatoes.

mmmm I can't say enough about this pot roast, it is soooo good! The gravy is out of this world!! Very simple to put together and the results were guest worthy for dinner with our neighbour, we all loved it. Made exactly as written but i took mine out 45 minutes early so that it wouldn't fall abart when sliced, it was perfect slices, thanks for posting, definately a do again and again recipe!!

Absolutely wonderful! Made as written with one adjustment, I used Cavender's All Purpose Greek Seasoning (salt free) in place of salt sand pepper. The roast came out so tender and has so much flavor, plus a creamy gravy, it doesn't get any better than this. Thanks for posting this delicious recipe.
