Step by Step Method
Step 1
Wash, core and quarter apples (do not peel).
Step 2
Combine apples and water to cover apples in lightly oiled crock pot.
Step 3
Cover and cook on low for 10 - 18 hours or high for 2 - 4 hours.
Step 4
When fruit is tender, put through a food mill to remove peel.
Step 5
Measure cooked fruit and return to crock pot.
Step 6
For each pint of sieved cooked fruit, add 1 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon allspice and 1/2 teaspoon cloves AND 1/2 t nutmeg . Stir well.
Step 7
Cover and cook on high for 6 - 8 hours, stirring about every 2 hours.
Step 8
Makes about 5 1/2 pints more if you do more apples.
Step 9
Remove cover after 2 hours to allow fruit and juice to cook down.
Step 10
If desired, spoon into hot sterilized jars and process according to standard canning methods.
