Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 14 apples
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for each pint of sieved cooked fruit)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for each pint of sieved cooked fruit)
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice (for each pint of sieved cooked fruit)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground clove (for each pint of sieved cooked fruit)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

How to Make

  • Step 1: Wash, core and quarter apples (do not peel).

  • Step 2: Combine apples and water to cover apples in lightly oiled crock pot.

  • Step 3: Cover and cook on low for 10 - 18 hours or high for 2 - 4 hours.

  • Step 4: When fruit is tender, put through a food mill to remove peel.

  • Step 5: Measure cooked fruit and return to crock pot.

  • Step 6: For each pint of sieved cooked fruit, add 1 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon allspice and 1/2 teaspoon cloves AND 1/2 t nutmeg . Stir well.

  • Step 7: Cover and cook on high for 6 - 8 hours, stirring about every 2 hours.

  • Step 8: Makes about 5 1/2 pints more if you do more apples.

  • Step 9: Remove cover after 2 hours to allow fruit and juice to cook down.

  • Step 10: If desired, spoon into hot sterilized jars and process according to standard canning methods.
