"A bit of a change from Corned Beef & Cabbage. The Apples adds a slight pleasant sweet flavour to the sauerkraut. I like serving horseradish along side or grainy mustard. Your timing depends on the thickness of the brisket. I find 5 hours is just right for most"

  • When selecting the corned beef, make sure to choose one that is thick and of good quality.
  • For the potatoes, use nugget potatoes as they hold their shape well during the cooking process.

  • Substitute 2 pounds of beef roast for the corned beef. This substitution will provide a more traditional beef flavor to the dish, while still providing the same texture as the corned beef.
  • Substitute sweet potatoes for the nugget potatoes. Sweet potatoes are a healthier option than white potatoes, and will add a subtle sweetness to the dish that will pair nicely with the apples.

Crock Pot Sausage & Sauerkraut Replace the corned beef with two pounds of smoked sausage, and reduce the cooking time to 4 hours on low. Serve with potatoes and horseradish on the side.

Roasted Carrots with Thyme: Roasted carrots with thyme are the perfect accompaniment to this crock pot corned beef. The sweetness of the carrots complements the sauerkraut and the thyme adds an earthy flavor. The carrots also provide a healthy side dish to balance out the richness of the corned beef.

Creamy Mashed Potatoes: Creamy mashed potatoes are the perfect side dish to pair with this crock pot corned beef. The potatoes provide a creamy and comforting texture that pairs well with the salty and savory flavors of the corned beef. The potatoes are also a great way to balance out the richness of the dish.
