  • Be sure to use low-sodium soy sauce to keep the dish from becoming too salty.
  • If you cannot find fresh gingerroot, you can substitute ground ginger.

  • Substitute honey for the granulated sugar. Honey is a healthier alternative to sugar and adds a subtle sweetness that pairs well with the other flavors in the dish.
  • Substitute olive oil for the vegetable oil. Olive oil is a healthier option than vegetable oil and has a mild flavor that won't overpower the other ingredients.

Spicy Chili Shrimp Increase the red pepper flakes to 2 teaspoons and add 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the ketchup mixture. Saute the shrimp in 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of oil.

Coconut Rice: This fragrant side dish is the perfect accompaniment to the Chili Shrimp. The sweetness of the coconut pairs perfectly with the heat of the shrimp, while the rice provides a nice balance to the meal.

Garlic Roasted Broccoli: This simple yet flavorful side dish is the perfect complement to the Chili Shrimp. The garlic and chili flavors combine to create a delicious balance, while the broccoli provides a crunchy texture to the meal.
