"I found the basic recipe in a cookbook by Better Homes and Gardens "Fast Fix Family Foods". But as with alot of recipes from cookbooks, I "tweak" them according to mine and SO's own personal tastes. This recipe uses foods that aren't made " from scratch" so if you want to use freshly prepared, the cooking time will be increased. When our great grand daughter was visiting she wanted chicken fingers like at mac donalds, so we bought a box of breaded chicken fingers. Had some left in the freezer, this was a good way to use them up. I am not a fan of milk gravy and had no buttermilk, so i made this with 2% milk, a little garlic scented vinegar, a touch of poultry seasoning, garlic salt, pepper and corn starch, a chicken broth cube, and was quite suprised how good it turned out. i had left over mashed potatoes, Instead of the oil I just used veggie spray to cook the chicken fingers.  With the potatoes, breaded chicken fingers and milk gravy, it really did turn into a comfort food meal served with sliced tomatoes.
