"I have being using this recipe for years, and this family really enjoys this salad. It is so quick, easy and tasty. I grow my own cherry tomatoes every year for this recipe. This looks especially pretty using different colored tomatoes."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Put the red onion in a bowl with the vinegar and oil.

Step 2

Toss well and leave to marinate in refrigerator for 1 hour, leaving for flavors to blend.

Step 3

When marinated, remove from fridge and add tomatoes, salt flakes & cracked pepper.

Step 4

Toss salad and just before serving, sprinkle tomato salad with the basil.

Step 5

Serve.

Great combination of ingredients. I only had a white onion and it contrasted nicely with the mostly red tomatoes. Went nicely next to a pasta salad for lunch.

What a tasty tomato salad this is, everyone loved this. I made this using white wine vinegar in lieu of the red wine vinegar, just because I was using yellow tomatoes and the red might of discolored the tomatoes. I think some cubes of mozzarella cheese in here would bring this over the top! However, it was delicious as is.
