Step by Step Method

Step 1

Heat the oven to 450° Fahrenheit. Grease an 8 X 8 inch baking dish.

Step 2

Melt a stick of butter in your baking dish.

Step 3

Get out a medium bowl and put in the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix it together.

Step 4

Pour in the buttermilk. Stir it until a loose dough is formed. The batter should be a little sticky.

Step 5

Place the dough into the baking dish. Spread it out with your hands. There will be butter that runs over the top of the dough. After smoothing it out in the pan, cut the biscuit dough into nine squares before placing into the oven.

Step 6

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, turning the dish once during the baking time.

Step 7

If the butter that comes to the top is turning brown, dab it with a paper towel around the edges.

I LOVED how easy these were to make. Mine weren't quite done by the end of the cooking time, so I pulled them out and recut the lines and baked them for an extra five minutes and it was perfection. They have a crispy, buttery outside that went wonderfully with raspberry and strawberry jam. These would also make the ideal base for biscuits and gravy. Made for B'Zazzled Game here in the 'Zazz forum and What's on the Menu at Friends, Food & Fun.

These are easy to make, and turn out crispy on top and moist inside. We had them with honey and quiche. A delicious breakfast for dinner meal.
