"This is a great dessert from my friend, Bernice's Mom, Mrs Hotchkiss' Kitchen. It has been a family favorite for years, and I wanted to share it with everyone here. It is delicious on its own, or with fresh whipped cream or Cool Whip! If you are a chocolate lover, then this one is for you! Enjoy!"

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 400ºF.
Step 2
Mix together the flour, white sugar, baking powder, salt and cocoa powder in a large bowl.
Step 3
In a small bowl, mix together the milk, vanilla & cooking oil.
Step 4
Stir the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients with a heavy spoon. If using nuts, stir them in now.
Step 5
Spread this batter mixture into the baking pan; it's not necessary to spread it completely across the bottom of the pan.
Step 6
Mix together the brown sugar & cocoa powder. Pour in the boiling water, whisking together to combine completely.
Step 7
Pour the sauce mixture gently over the batter.
Step 8
Bake in the preheated oven, for 30 minutes.
Tips
- NOTE: It is wise to put a cookie sheet or a larger baking pan underneath the pan, because it will likely boil over as it bakes.
