Step by Step Method

Step 1

Cut meat into 1/2 inch thick slices. Place between sheets of waxed paper and pound until its 1/4 inch thick (be careful not to tear meat). Cut pounded meat into 2x1/2 inch slices. Sprinkle meat with salt and pepper, let stand for 15 minutes.

Step 2

Heat 2 TBS butter in a frying pan large enough to hold everything. Add sliced onion, cook over medium heat for 5 minutes.

Step 3

Add meat to pan and cook for 3 minutes, turning meat to brown evenly.

Step 4

Stir in flour and mustard, and cook 1 minute more. Add 1/2 cup wine and optional tomato paste. Reduce heat to low, cover pan and simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring frequently.

Step 5

In another frying pan, heat 2 TBS butter. Add minced onion and mushrooms. Cook over medium heat 2 minutes. Add 2 TBS wine and cook 2 minutes more. Add mushroom mixture to meat mixture. Check seasonings and add warmed sour cream.

Step 6

Over lowest possible heat, simmer for 5 minutes to heat through. Do NOT let it boil.

Step 7

Serve over hot rice with a green vegetable on the side

This dish really hit the spot. I served it over egg noodles and I used the dijon as other reviewers did. Delish!

I made this using some really tender dear meat. I used white wine vinegar in place of wine and I used the tomato paste. I chopped the mushrooms up really little. This was fun to make and we liked it very much. I made this for the What's on the Menu game in the Food Friends and Fun forums.

We loved every last forkfull of this delicious pasta dish! So much flavor going on. I served it over linguine and then dug in! Company worthy any day of the week. We had peas and garlic knots on the side. So dang good I could slap your mama!

Very tasty stroganoff recipe! Truly comfort food. Since we are saucy gravy people, I added about a cup of beef broth before the sour cream, just to give it a little more sauce, and we had it on egg noodles. It's a winner. So much flavor, without adding any other saucessuch as soy or worcestershire.

This was a wonderful Beef Stroganoff recipe. And it's really easy to make, too. I use ground mustard for the mustard powder, but next time I would probably use something most zesty such as Dijon or maybe even my favorite Spicy Brown Mustard. That's simply a matter of preference, and it was still quite flavorful with the mustard powder. I served it over cooked egg noodles, and it made for a filling and tasty dinner. Thanks, Marramamba!

I love stroganoff and this was really good. I used some leftover prime rib and used Dijon for the mustard. Thanks for sharing the recipe, Marra. Made for Best of 2019 game and recommended by Mikekey.
