"Due to allergies, I can't use store-bought foods and so I have to come up with them on my own. I made this on a whim and so far seems to have turned out perfect. It's challenging for me to post recipes though because I don't measure! I've learned to embrace it and it's given me a lot of freedom in the kitchen. I'm estimating on some of the measurements to make the database happy. Yields 1 cup"

Step by Step Method
Note: Brown sugar- if you only have "golden" you might want to add a dash of molasses. I've resorted to mixing my own brown sugar with white sugar and molasses because dark brown sugar is hard to find
Step 1
Mix the brown sugar and tomato paste in a small saucepan on medium-low heat. Add the vinegars. The paste can is exactly the right size. (I just poured some balsamic in and then topped it off with the cider vinegar).
Step 2
Add the spices as the mixture is heating up. I estimated the amounts. I would just pour them into my palm and toss them in. (sorry!) I know it was more onion than garlic and it might have been more salt than listed.
Step 3
Simmer until flavors are combined. I used this right away but you could store in fridge and the flavors might improve.
