Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup brown sugar (dark)
  • 1 can (6 ounce) tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (to taste)
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon powdered onion (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke (to taste)
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Note: Brown sugar- if you only have "golden" you might want to add a dash of molasses. I've resorted to mixing my own brown sugar with white sugar and molasses because dark brown sugar is hard to find

  • Step 1: Mix the brown sugar and tomato paste in a small saucepan on medium-low heat. Add the vinegars. The paste can is exactly the right size. (I just poured some balsamic in and then topped it off with the cider vinegar).

  • Step 2: Add the spices as the mixture is heating up. I estimated the amounts. I would just pour them into my palm and toss them in. (sorry!) I know it was more onion than garlic and it might have been more salt than listed.

  • Step 3: Simmer until flavors are combined. I used this right away but you could store in fridge and the flavors might improve.
